Turn your job skills into a business! Where do I start?
It is my belief that everyone has bright ideas and skills that they know that can prosper with outside of their job. The frustration is eating them alive every single day, going to the job and thinking, I can do this and that, I have this idea and that idea. But where do I start? One thing is for certain with this in mind; every idea doesn’t necessarily have to be a brand new fresh idea, or doesn’t have to be complex at all! An example ; there are many different burger joints around the world, McDonalds, Burger King or Wendy’s. You also have the option to shop at Walmart or Target. With this options, it’s clear that the real deciding factor is, with your bright idea, can you execute and simplify your business. Some people I know want to start a clothing line or they are really good at their job and can do some type of consulting for other people, or can start their own mentorship program. Another question: Are you willing to start at the simplest core of your business idea? Here are 5 essential components of a simple business plan:
Overview - What are you selling? How will your product or service help people and who will purchase it?
Money - What will you charge? How will you get paid? How else can you get paid for your product or service? What are a couple of important items needed in order to provide that product/service to your customers?
Marketing - How will customers learn about your business/product/service? How can you have a referral program for new customers?
Success - Your business will be considered successful after what annual income or number of customers? Do you have a system or workflow process in place to communicate with potential clients, take in income, calculate or keep track of your expenses, provide the product or service and then continue communication with that client?
Possible obstacles - There are many challenges that one may face when starting your business. The goal when understanding these obstacles is to start by knocking down one barrier at a time but also understanding that this only makes you stronger to knock down the next one. What is one challenge that you believe you have before getting started and one solution to that barrier/challenge?
